With Thanksgiving week officially here, many of us will be on the open road.
What can we expect? TRAFFIC, and lots of it!
I may not have discovered an app that can prevent traffic, but I have found one that alleviates some of the headache associated with traveling.

Prior to my current job, I like most people, relied on either Apple Maps or Google Maps to get me from point A to point B. While I am a big fan of using Google Maps for walking directions, I found it lacking when it came to navigating unfamiliar roads.

As someone who likes to shave minutes off of the “arrival time”, I knew I needed a better solution.
Allow me to introduce you to Waze! An app powered by drivers just like you and I!

What is Waze?
Waze is a free driving app that also incorporates live traffic maps.
What exactly does that mean? Whether you are driving cross-country or to your local coffee shop, Waze will help you navigate the quickest route with the least amount of traffic hazards. I have even found myself using Waze around Cincinnati as a way to bypass unexpected traffic jams, accidents, road construction, etc!

How does the app work?

  • Drivers have the option to submit reports such as: police, traffic, construction, car stopped, car accident, roadkill, object in road, etc. (These reports can be extremely benefical when trying to determine what time you need to hit the road or which route to take.)
  • Police Alert: No more excuses for speeding tickets! If a Waze user has spotted and reported a police vehicle, you will be notified as you approach the reported location. (This feature alone has saved me on multiple occasions.)
  • Multiple route options. This can be extremely helpful when driving in both familiar and unfamiliar areas. (More times than not, I have been within 15 minutes of my house and used Waze to check my route for traffic reports.)
  • Add a stop: Have you ever been on the highway and wondered where the closest Chick-fil-A is? Fret no more! While your map is open, you have the option to “add a stop”. You can search for a specific business or keep it generic and search for example, “gas stations”. Waze will present you with a list of stops along your route and will also show how many minutes off route the stop is!
  • Portrait and Landscape orientation available: Whether you prefer a phone holder in your car, or your phone is sideways on the dashboard, Waze offers easy to read layouts.
