S.O.B. “Son of a Butcher” (Cincinnati, Ohio)

March 14, 2022

This post is not sponsored. All opinions are my own.

I had the honor of being hosted by S.O.B. for their soft opening on February 28th.
If you’re following me on social media then you’ve probably already heard about the new
S.O.B. steakhouse at Liberty Center. If you aren’t following me yet, be sure to check out my Instagram.

So what is S.O.B.?

From the founders of award-winning Agave & Rye, comes a new spin on a traditional steakhouse. “Son of a Butcher” offers everything desirable in a top steakhouse, without the pretentious atmosphere.

S.O.B. has something for everyone. Their menu offers a wide range including: USDA prime cuts, wagyu, caviar, shaved truffles and gold leaf options, fresh seafood, scratch pasta, picture worthy desserts and more!

This steakhouse fits the bill for all occasions. Want to get dolled up? Great! Prefer to throw on your casual blue jeans? Totally fine!

Initial Thoughts:

Upon arrival I immediately headed to the bar because #priorities. The atmosphere and aesthetic are next level. Picture the diamond slogan from the hit movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, “frost yourself”. Chandeliers fill the ceiling as you glide from room to room. There is faux animal fur draped on the back of chairs throughout the restaurant and even saddles you can climb up on at the bar!

What We Drank

Grow a Pear: Infused Pear Vodka + Elderflower + Lemon + Vanilla + Bubbles
I gravitate to anything with the word “pear and elderflower” in it.
This drink was delicious! It also came with a rainbow colored pear garnish.

Whiskey Business: Bourbon + Maple + Salt + Bitters
This drink was a production to make.
Be sure to check out my video at the top of this post. They brought the flame torch out for this bourbon drink!

What We Ate

Appetizers

Raclette: Melty Skillet Cheese + Whole Roasted Garlic Head + Toasted Crostini (VG)
YES YES YES. Need I say more? If you are human and enjoy melted cheese, this is an absolute must.
100% a repeat order

Million $ Deviled Eggs: Pepper Bacon + Pickle + Gold Leaf (GF)
Aesthetics alone, these deviled eggs are top notch. I mean have you ever eaten an egg with GOLD FLAKES on top? With that said, the flavor was somewhat lacking.

Entrees:

With it being our first time at this steakhouse, we kept it simple and stuck with steak options only. Keep in mind if steak isn’t your favorite, there were several other options available on the menu! If you do opt for the steak, you get to choose your weapon of choice! I found this to be incredibly creative and a fun novelty!

8oz Wagyu Filet crowned with shaved black truffle

16oz Wagyu NY Strip crowned with foie gras hollandaise

12oz Primate Ribeye crowned with shaved black truffle

Overall all these three steaks are what you would expect from a high end steakhouse. If you haven’t tried wagyu steak before, it is a must try!

Sides:

A&R Famous Brussels
The word “famous” is in the title for a reason. Brussels sprouts are all the rage these days. Have you noticed how trendy this veggie has become?! Growing up I thought I hated brussels sprouts and now I gravitate to them on the menu. These brussels are 100% a re-order. So delicious, so much flavor, 10/10!

Duck Fat Waffle Fries
I hate to say it but I’m somewhat of a fry snob. I have an intense love affair with french fries and zero tolerance for anything less than top notch. Unfortunately these fries just didn’t do it for me. For starters, I do not consider these to be true “waffle fries”. I want my waffle fries to be “waffled” with holes in the fry. In addition, these fries were lacking the delish flavor I usually associate with the words “duck fat”.

Dessert:

Black Cold Forest: Black magic cake + luxardo candied cherries + chocolate mousse + chocolate feuilletine + cherry cotton candy

I’ll be honest, we picked this dessert because we saw it being toted all around the restaurant. I thought it would make the perfect photo-op and was not disappointed! Any dessert that includes dry ice is sure to be a crowd pleaser! My only critique: I wish the black magic cake was warm, like a molten lava cake. This dessert is served cold and while still delicious, I personally prefer a hot, oozing, chocolate cake.
