Whether you’re flying cross-continental or jet setting on a quick business trip, convenience can make or break your travel experience. Over the past 7 years, I’ve narrowed down some of my carry-on must-haves to this list of TSA-approved essentials that help me feel organized and a little more at home—even at 35,000 feet.
Below are my top 6 TSA-approved items, repeatedly flight-tested and never left at home.
1. Compact Pill Organizer

Keep medications, vitamins, and just-in-case meds organized and within arms reach.
A sturdy, TSA-friendly pill organizer with multiple compartments helps you stay on top of prescriptions, supplements, and travel essentials like headache or heartburn relief. I use mine every single trip whether it’s a multiday trip or quick weekend getaway—and love that it fits easily in my personal item without taking up too much space.
2. Noise-Canceling Wireless Earbuds

As an audiologist I prioritize my listening experiences. If you think you don’t need or want noise-canceling headphones, it’s because you haven’t tried them yet, trust me. Seriously, my husband was anti AirPods until I finally bought him a set and now he’s HOOKED. My next person to concur – my own mother, LOL!
TSA-approved and worth the investment. I have had AirPod Pros for several years now and am a HUGE fan of the noise-canceling technology.
I have also been eyeing the AirPod Max because hello, how cute are these colors? Definitely putting these on my birthday or Christmas list this year!

Bonus: They also work great when paired with an in-flight Bluetooth transmitter if you’re watching movies on the seatback screen.

3. Clear TSA approved toiletry bag

Skip the single-use bag and travel sustainably.
A reusable, transparent toiletry pouch is both TSA-compliant and more durable than plastic baggies. Look for one with compartments so you can stay organized at security. While this is not necessary if you have TSA Pre-check, I still enjoy utilizing a clear toiletry bag so I can make sure I am not forgetting anything when packing (hello ADHD). I also find these very easy to clean in case you accidentally have a spill during travel. Now if you do not have TSA pre-check, you are required to remove your carry-on toiletries from your bag when going through security. These bags are easy to locate in the security line without fuss and without TSA tearing through your carry-on.
I bought this three pack and split it between myself, my husband and my brother who also travels frequently for work.
4. Portable Phone Charger (TSA-Approved Size)

As someone who is always on the go with a low phone battery, a portable charger is a must.
Make sure your power bank is TSA-compliant (under 100Wh or 27,000mAh), and always keep it in your carry-on, not your checked bag. The FAA has strict regulations regarding lithium ion batteries.
These are also great for concerts. I brought this exact charger with me to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert!
5. Travel Jewelry organizer

I previously wrote an entire blog post here on my love of travel jewelry organizers. Once again I want to reiterate that these are a game changer! The last thing you want to do when arriving at your destination is feeling knotty untangling necklaces or realizing you forgot an earring.
6. Mist Hand Sanitizer

I’ve carried a travel size hand sanitizer for as long as I can remember. I’m talking all the way back to my high school era. But when I stumbled upon Touchland Power Mist Hydrating Hand Sanitizer last year, I’ve never looked back. Yes, it’s more expensive but the fine mist doesn’t make my hands gooey AND the scents are amazing! I’ve re-bought 3x now and I also have gifted this to several people now.
Quick recap
